What is Multi-Room Audio? Sometimes referred to as MRA, this is a system that allows the distribution of one or more audio sources to various areas around your home (often called zones). These systems allow individual volume control in each area, and if capable of distributing more than one audio source, then you are able to select a different source of music playing in a different zone. Put simply, you could be listening to a CD by the pool, while an mp3 player is heard in a bedroom. If desired, the same source of music can be played in all zones at the same time.
These systems are not intended to provide a home-theatre sound solution, but ‘pipe’ music elsewhere in the home – although the source of the audio can come from your home theatre equipment. The audio output from an additional mp3 player could be one of the input sources if you wanted, so audio would be heard from your ceiling speakers in your bedroom.
Sonos Digital Music System: This system provides wireless operation from a hand-held controller to up to thirty-two zones. The amplifiers driving the speakers connect to the computer network in your home allowing the system to stream digital music like mp3’s and internet radio to any zone or combined zones. Audio media can be housed on a storage device or be accessed from a pc hard-drive. New audio files can be ‘drag & dropped’ onto the system which are then indexed for you and it will even retrieve album cover art from the internet! Each desktop amplifier allows a local audio input to be connected, for example a CD player. More controllers can be added at any time.

| Clipsal Audio: Up to seven zones can be provided with audio, however, from one source only. A wallplate provides volume control to ceiling speakers, but has infrared remote control built–in and comes with a transmitter. This system also offers ir reticulation to control remote equipment from another room.
